Meet the Author

Kebba S. Juwara

Kebba S Juwara was born in Sanjal Kani Kunda Suba, Upper Badibu, North Bank Region of the Gambia. He was born to an artisan family well talented in smith and leather work. He started his basic education in Sinchu Njabo Basic Cycle and later moved to Bakoteh Proper Lower Basic School and Busumbala Farato Lower Basic School respectively. Kebba completed his primary education in 2009 and moved to Mingdaw Upper Basic School for his junior school, and later to St. Peter’s High School where his deep rooted interest for creative writing grew.
After his graduation in 2015, he got admission to The Gambia College where he majored English Language and Agriculture. During his first year at the College, he took creative writing more keenly and as time passed, he became more established.

After his graduation from The Gambia College, Kebba taught both English Language and Literature as subjects. He is currently studying English Language at the University of The Gambia.

In 2022, Kebba published his first book, entitled; Spilled Beans. This was followed by Mr. Corrupt’s Son in January 2023, and An Obelisk for Grandpa in December 2023. Spilled Beans and An Obelisk for Grandpa are poetry collections. Mr. Corrupt’s Son is a novella.

Goal

Kebba S. Juwara is a talented young Gambia writer who wishes to use his pen to mirror the society, dig into the past, and give insights into the future.
He has arguably been the most consistent prolific Gambian poet in the past four years. He presents poems with paintings and pictures that aptly correlate with the content of his poems. This new style has brought him thousands of readers and followers among young and old readers alike, as well as people from other African countries. Since 2021, he publishes over fifty poems on his social media handles (WhatApp and Facebook).

Kebba has received various awards in poetry. Key among these is the HIGHEST POETRY AWARD at the International Conference of scholars and book launch by Modou Lamin Age Almusaf Sowe in Partnership with the International Association of African Authors and Scholars(IAAAS), Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), and One African Pen Warriors Organization For Development(OAPWOD) in January 2022.
Kebba is also the only Gambia to secure a place in the Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Anthology.
Kebba’s Submission to the WAY OF LIGHT POETRY MAGAZINE won the title of the publication and thus, his poem, MY INSPIRATION becomes the title of the publication.
He is a forward thinking youth leader and aims to alleviate the struggles on the path of Gambian Literature.
